Studying abroad is expensive. But poor financial management makes it worse.
Before You Leave
- Get a Forex card for initial expenses.
- Carry some cash (small denominations) for immediate needs like a taxi.
- Inform your Indian bank that you are traveling so they don't block your card.
Opening a Local Bank Account
You will usually need your passport, visa, and university admission letter. Some universities have banks on campus during orientation week. Do this in your first week.
Budgeting Tips
- Cook at home: Eating out is the fastest way to drain your account.
- Student Discounts: Always ask. Amazon Prime, Spotify, train tickets, and software all have student rates.
- Track your spending: Use apps like Mint or just a simple spreadsheet for the first month until you know your rhythm.
